VPRO’s Radio 6 programme De Wissel devoted an entire show to Brian Eno’s Another Green World last Saturday. Host Aad van Nieuwkerk plays tracks from the original album back to back with interpretations taken off our Retro Retry 2 cd. Meanwhile, he takes us on a walk through Scotland and London, and speaks about the history of the album, about Eno’s working methods, his inspirations and his guest musicians. It’s a very interesting listen, and it’s available in streaming audio on De Wissel’s blog where you can also read more about Another Green World in general and this show in particular (in Dutch).
Two reviews for Retro Retry 2: Another Another Green World this week. According to dance magazine DJ Broadcast ‘Another Another Green World is actually a nice way to get introduced to Eno’s work and to check out the original album while your at it. A good idea and well done.’ Festivalinfo says ‘all tracks, maybe except Spoelstra’s, shine with respect for the original version. Still, all artists stay true to their own sound, making this album mainly a good introduction to the fourteen participating acts.’
Austrian e-zine Cracked reviews Retro Retry 2: Another Another Green World: ‘A lot of great music is on here, but the definite winner is the fact how all these very diverse bands and projects breathed the time and age (and probably state of mind) that Eno made this record in.’ Read the whole review here.
Dutch webzine Cut-Up reviews Retro Retry 2: Another Another Green World, the remake of Brian Eno’s legendary album from 1975 and uses terms like ‘enough reason to buy the album’ (on the Coen Oscar Polack track The Big Ship) and ‘beautiful’ (on the Hunter Complex track Everything Merges with the Night). The radio program Beautiful Extremes, online radio by Studio 80, played some tracks from Retro Retry 2: Another Another Green World and the original by Brian Eno. The host Oscar Smit also did an interview with Lars Meijer from Narrominded about the Retro Retry project and about the label itself. On the cd Retro Retry 2: Another Another Green World fourteen Dutch electronic artists cover Brian Eno’s album Another Green World (1975), which is considered a timeless masterpiece, in its entirety. The program Shouting Boots on Radio 6, hosted by Jaap Boots en Koen Schouten, played the track The Big Ship by Coen Oscar Polack from the upcoming release Retro Retry 2: Another Another Green World, a remake of Brian Eno’s masterpiece Another Green World (1975). The track was requested by DJ Guuzbourg, who was on the radio show to promote the cd Gainsnord, a tribute to the French singer Serge Gainsbourg. Listen to the fragment in the player below.
The discs for Retro Retry 2: Another Another Green World have arrived at Narrominded HQ. The nice design was made by Willehad Eilers who also took care of the rest of the artwork for this release. We are expecting the digipak sleeves for the album to arrive very very soon.
Hunter Complex is the new moniker of Lars Meijer. His debut album Hunter Complex will be released on Narrominded in the autumn of 2009 and contains 12 songs. The music echoes influences by synthpop and new wave bands from the eighties, but will also appeal to fans of current electronic music acts. The debut album will be preceded by the ep Here Is the Night, a contribution to Retro Retry 2: Another Another Green World (Brian Eno) and a track on the Narrominded download sampler included with the magazine Gonzo Circus (more info on that one later). Scheduled for release this September: Retro Retry 2: Another Another Green World (cd). On this album, 14 artists cover Brian Eno’s Another Green World (1975) in it’s entirety. All participating artists are based in the Netherlands and operate in the field of electronic and electro-acoustic music. The album is the follow-up to Retro Retry 1: EVOL (2005), on which Sonic Youth’s EVOL was covered by 10 Dutch bands, including Gone Bald, Makazoruki, Pfaff, Fine China Superbone and zZz. The artwork for RR1 was done by Vormversterker. The cd was distributed with That Dam! magazine, which featured an exclusive poem by Lee Ranaldo.
