Machinist will perform his new Narrominded album Convergence with the help of ‘digital folk ensemble’ Lunapark in Tilburg next week. As part of Lunapark’s new years concert in Tilburg’s Paradox venue on January 16, Machinist will be joined by the ensemble for a special electro-acoustic rendition of Convergence for the very first time. In the mean time we would like to seize the opportunity to present to you this lovely video of the performance Machinist did in Utrecht last month.
Time for our yearly sentimental reminiscing blog!
First and foremost, 2012 was the year that Boutros Bubba left our world with a double bang: The outtakes EP ‘Band Fight’ and a final show in the Vondelbunker. There was appropriate boozing and banter, Boutros Bubba played a great set and the support shows from Econo and Katadreuffe were sweet as well.
Our first album release this year was Matto Frank’s ‘China’ (‘a beautiful trip report’, as Kwadratuur called it). Matto Frank presented this album full of sultry soundscapes and field recordings in Vlam Oostzee, and he made a mixtape for Vice Magazine to promote it as well.
In September, Rooie Waas released ‘Het is maar een constatering’. A notable album (even only because it has Dutch vocals) that made the year lists from a.o. Indie Indie and Peter Bruyn.
Our third release in 2012 was Machinist´s Convergence, a spheric piece with electronics, field recordings and piano, recorded in Smart Project Space. Truly recommended to all fans of adventurous music, said Chain d.l.k. webzine.
Some live highlights: Spoelstra toured through Serbia and Germany. Katadreuffe played in Melkweg with a.o. Minny Pops on the big ‘Ultra’ end party. Rooie Waas played on Sotu Festival and State-X New Forms. Coen Oscar Polack and Puin + Hoop played on Cultfest in Utrecht.
We organized several fun nights ourselves too: Stad als Podium in Patronaat Cafe with Rooie Waas, Coen Oscar Polack, Matto Frank, Dead Neanderthals and Donne et Desirée. Label nights in De Nieuwe Anita with a.o. Het Fukking Licht, Organisms, Hydrus, Floris Bovée, Garçon Taupe, Rude 66, Staatseinde, Drvg Cvltvre, Kleefstra / Pruiksma / Kleefstra, Sleep Gunner, Apneu and Super Acid Rave Men.
Other highlights were hanging out with the nice people from a.o. Smikkelbaard, Subroutine and Geertruida on the Onafhankelijke Labelmarkt in Amsterdam. And visiting All Tomorrow’s Parties in the UK with a 10 person delegation, enjoying a bunch of nice bands curated by Shellac.
Plans for 2013
Hunter Complex finished a new album which will be pressed on vinyl as soon as the cover is done. Coen Oscar Polack and Herman Wilken finished two pieces that will be released on vinyl too. Hydrus is pretty much done with a long awaited EP. Katadreuffe is mixing a new album. Garçon Taupe is recording new tracks. Saturday October 27 2012 Boutros Bubba says goodbye. They will play their 100th and last show in the Vondelbunker in Amsterdam together with their friends of Katadreuffe and Econo.

We are very proud to present the new album Convergence by Machinist. After albums on his own Betontoon label and on Moving Furniture, it is his first release on Narrominded, in association with Betontoon. Convergence was recorded during our label night in Smart Project Space last year. The building blocks for this extremely focused set are sine waves, modulated waves, piano and field recordings made in Germany and The Netherlands. The result is at times very minimal and at other point loud and proud. The cover features paintings by the artist himself. Don’t hesitate: this is an absolutely astonishing album and a must-have addition to every serious collection of electronic music. The kind people of Kulturna Organizacija Monogram in Serbia have just released a live recording by our very own boy wonder Spoelstra. The show was recorded in CK13 in Novi Sad earlier this year, during the Low Landing Tour. A generous man, Spoelstra has played an hour of past favourites and new material. Last night, Rooie Waas presented their debut album Het is maar een constatering. In Eddie the Eagle Museum (Amsterdam), nine works were on display and for sale, each forming a unique cd cover and an hommage to the compact disc as an increasingly less popular medium. The works vary from a leather jacket to musical instruments and metal objects, and are created by Kiki Weerts, Yuri Landman, Julien ‘’Supe’’ Couic, Robin Hood, Caspar Prager, Raymond van Cauweberghe, Willum Geerts and Sarah de Rooij. The night was warmed up by DJ Reggie Satanas and Karel Anker & De Joden, and effectively put on fire by Rooie Waas, with a little help of insane amounts of beer and whisky. Was loads of fun! This Thursday Sept 20, there will be a second release party in Roodkapje (Rotterdam). Bismuth and DJ Elle Bandita will join the party, and the artworks will be on display as well. Hope to see you there.
Narrominded will be present at this year’s edition of De Stad Als Podium, the official kickoff of the season for performing arts in Haarlem. On saturday September 8 we will program the all new, post-makeover café stage of Het Patronaat with a stellar line-up of Dutch noisemakers. From the Narrominded roster there will be Rooie Waas, Matto Frank and Coen Oscar Polack. Special guests for the night will be improv-dudes Donné et Desirée and grindnoise kings Dead Neanderthals. And guess what?! FREE entrance. No excuse to skip this one, so be there!
The new Hunter Complex album is finished! The follow-up to the self-titled debut from 2010 will be released in the winter of 2012 and is entitled Heat. The album is ready for mastering and the artwork is being worked on. The track Hours will be released as the first single, including a non-lp b-side. More info on that coming soon. The album will be released as a limited lp, contains 10 tracks and is 45 minutes long. The tracklisting is as follows:
